Experiment of the night

Some experiments end up working great (see Ironman below) Some other times, this happens. Not really happy as to how this was coming out so…maybe it’s the palette? Eh, moving on.

Storyboards

A storyboard for a short a friend and I are putting together. It's very rough, but I'm hoping it reads well enough so we can start animating soon.

Optimus Prime

I started this some time last night, but then I stopped and went out. Today I was looking at it and I really dont feel like working on it anymore. Meh.

Is it shark week already?

Dunno about you guys, but I’m getting ready for Shark Week, a month in advance.



PS: I, in fact, wore that hat last year.



PPS: You can pretty much guess that 80% of the sketches/paintings will probably come from the Nintendo DS. Why? CAUSE WE ARE IN LOVE!

Odin speed-painting

A quick speed-painting of Odin, done on the DS. So I’m supposed to be drawing a storyboard for my thesis animation, instead I did this. Who’s that responsible guy walking over there?? NOT ME.

Iron Man

Last of these NDS doodles for a while. Need to get actual important work done. I was just having too much fun =/

And a painting done on the DS aswell, I wanted to see how far I could push the tiny machine. It's kinda off, but there are no layers or adjustment options, so it's the closest thing I have to traditional painting, without the cheats =P

NDS sketches made with love. Some at least

So far I had been using the DS for speed painting sketches. I hadnt tried inking or anything like that. Have to say, I'm sort of in love with it now. My style of inking is not exactly the conventional way that the Big Two (Marvel/DC) normally like to go for, it's actually slightly messy. But I like it that way (dirty)What I like about this is the speed which I was able to make them aswell. I am pleased.

Beauty and the Beast - storyboard assignment

So I failed to print this on time and well, I failed the class. But these are some storyboards for a scene from the movie "La Belle Et La Bete" (Beauty and the Beast, 1946 French version) I was supposed to experiment with a range of styles, hence the hectic change from painting to horror-graphic novel-looking, and the last page..well, that was me rushing to get it done by the deadline, so it looks like hell. Anyway, I figured I should post it anyway and get it out of my system.

A few more NDS sketches I did last night, taking a break from my main project (which is looking more like a horror graphic novel than actual storyboards...hmm, dont know how to feel about that)

Pin up - WIP

So I was hell-bent on putting this in my mid-review portfolio, unfortunately I started it a day before, so that bites. I will finish this eventually, but I'm having a few issues, specifically the ones marked with red circles.

Right now she's looking a little chunky, the tattoos look "placed" and dont follow the skin values, the hair looks weird, and the face and car are unfinished.

EDIT: After examining this closely, I caught another issue with the face: There are no value ranges. I'm almost considering scrapping this and starting over =/

John Walters on film making and other things

He has so many interesting things to say. I love the part about "cult film makers" near the beginning and his thoughts on movie trailers. It's very true.

Fashi-oooooooonnn

I took a fashion illustration class this quarter (mainly to hit on girls...yeeeeeea that totally back-fired.....) The level of talent in that class was below ground level so it was kinda hard to get inspired. These are some sketches and some of the better work I got out of that class.

This was my proposal for another project. Got shot down pretty quickly, haha

WIP

So I downloaded the last version of Colors! for the Nintendo DS that ever came out. I'm re-discovering the love for speed painting on the go. It's like having an adorable mini-cintiq. This will do til I sell my soul to Apple and get an iPad/stylus combo in a few months (cause finger painting? So primitive)
