Victorian detective story/pitch

Eventually I'll get better at making animation pitching boards. Until then, here's a Victorian detective story kind of thing.

Animation pitch

Sample pitch of an animated project. Names of people and places are currently work in progress. (as in...they're awful at the moment)

Set in a fantasy-medieval setting of Mambi-Pambi Land, beasts and humans live together in peace. Sam and Johan are brother and sister, orphans, and live in the Marketplace City, where Sam gets by as a Hunter while taking care of Johan and his pet wolf...WOLF.

Johan gets captured by slave traders and Sam chases after them. The equivalent of a horse in this world is a cross between a rhino and a gorilla (There's also flying whales) During the chase loses track of the traders.

During the quest, Sam meets a prince. He's on a quest to slay the leader of the slave traders, who's a mortal enemy to his kingdom. He's a vain and almost stuck up character. His father sent him on this quest so he can prove to him that he's worthy of taking the crown after him. Because of their similar quests, they decide to join forces. This is where the adventure begins.

"Mark of Zorro" illustrations

Another Zorro illustration batch.

Zorro battles Captain Ramon in the Pulido Hacienda

A less humanized Zorro, as the soldiers described him during the early encounters.

Chapter header: Sargent Garcia being overly loud whith Diego De La Vega, being very nonchalant.

"Mark of Zorro" studies

I used the "Mark of Zorro" characters and designed them to fit into the story. I redesigned Zorro just a bit to be more practical and less eye-candyish and obvious about his secret identity.

quick flats for color key.

more speed studies

Speed painting life studies. Trying to get back into them. The first one, the browser crashed before I could save the image (was using a random picture generator)

Speed painting + quick study

A Nintendo DS speed painting, which may or may not be She-Hulk. We'll never know----->Logic just left.

I was experimenting on how far I can push this style on anything. I feel someone will eventually will get fed up with so many lines going everywhere.

Character studies + Terra Nova

Two more character studies for a story I'm developing. I know they have wonky anatomy, I'm still trying to get a feel for the style.

I watched the Terra Nova premiere last night, and was doodling away while it was on. Some random stuff here and there about it.

Here’s another painting exercise that’ll probably never get finished either.

Getting Caught. Again.

The best response to have if you get caught by your wife.

Flash exercise.

Hunt for the Jade Jaguar intro

This was a group effort for a 2D studio team class, in which another person and I were team leaders. I created the character and co-wrote the story. I wasn't thrilled about the outcome, but it's my first time as the "boss", so...

This is the premise for a longer story, for which I describe it as an "a goofier and inept Indiana Jones in Central America"

Note: Music clips are from the Metal Gear Solid 3 soundtrack.

Street Shark energy drink

Cause every gym needs to carry them. based off that awful mid-90s cartoon, where everything had to be EXTREME.

It's still rough, I really want to finish it and put it in my reel eventually.

iPad painting

I had a chance to play around with ArtRage on the iPad. I'm not used to the weird stylus yet, and the weird pressure sensitivity from the different programs and the stylus itself. Hopefully I'll get a chance to practice some more. I definitely still feel more comfortable with Colors! and a Nintendo DS, but okay, it's experience.

Machete in hand

I animated this scene as part of a short for a 2D team effort. I'm not completely happy at how the clean up person handled this scene's the one I made.

It's still choppy in certain places though.

Metroid 25th Anniversary

Apparently it’s Metroid’s 25th anniversary? I didnt know. Here’s an oldie (which is also my header...that I need to replace >.>...) Hail to the hunters.

Jade Jaguar scene roughs

A scene for a short I'm working on. This is pretty rough, still trying to get the timing and other stuff I can fix while I'm in the early stages

Hunt for the Jade Jaguar animatic

An animatic I quickly put together for a short animation I’ll be working on. It goes by fairly quickly, but I just need to put the point across for the other team members.

Typography junk

Practicing drawing several different fonts, cause I’m terrible at it and I need to learn. Heavy reference was used in most of them.

Finish the fight!

Master Chief, being a mess of emotions. I tried replicating the wood-carving-like technique I've using with lines, but with paint. Keyword: Tried.

PS: Sorry for the tumblr url. I posted it over there first.

Speed practice

Another DS doodle. Based loosely on a picture of a friend. S'okay I guess.

Experiment of the night

Some experiments end up working great (see Ironman below) Some other times, this happens. Not really happy as to how this was coming out so…maybe it’s the palette? Eh, moving on.

A storyboard for a short a friend and I are putting together. It's very rough, but I'm hoping it reads well enough so we can start animating soon.

Optimus Prime

Does it look like it’s made out of trash? No? Good, cause it’s not supposed to (take note, Michael Bay)

I started this some time last night, but then I stopped and went out. Today I was looking at it and I really dont feel like working on it anymore. Meh.

Is it shark week already?

Dunno about you guys, but I’m getting ready for Shark Week, a month in advance.

PS: I, in fact, wore that hat last year.

PPS: You can pretty much guess that 80% of the sketches/paintings will probably come from the Nintendo DS. Why? CAUSE WE ARE IN LOVE!

Odin speed-painting

A quick speed-painting of Odin, done on the DS. So I’m supposed to be drawing a storyboard for my thesis animation, instead I did this. Who’s that responsible guy walking over there?? NOT ME.

Iron Man

Last of these NDS doodles for a while. Need to get actual important work done. I was just having too much fun =/

And a painting done on the DS aswell, I wanted to see how far I could push the tiny machine. It's kinda off, but there are no layers or adjustment options, so it's the closest thing I have to traditional painting, without the cheats =P

NDS sketches made with love. Some at least

So far I had been using the DS for speed painting sketches. I hadnt tried inking or anything like that. Have to say, I'm sort of in love with it now. My style of inking is not exactly the conventional way that the Big Two (Marvel/DC) normally like to go for, it's actually slightly messy. But I like it that way (dirty)What I like about this is the speed which I was able to make them aswell. I am pleased.

And some more quick landscapes. VERY quick ones =/
